SEAL Keynote - Chopped Champion Eliza Martin '11

This is a past event.

The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL), will be hosting keynote speaker Eliza Martin, the 2020 "Chopped" Champion and DeSales alum. This event will be held Wednesday, March 13th @ 7 PM in the DUC. This is a free program, open to everyone on campus. First-Year students in attendance can receive two credits for Health & Wellness. There will be free food too! RSVP on ENGAGE and find out more about Eliza!

Eliza is a 2011 DeSales University alum, Food Network "Chopped" Champion, a chef-entertainer, and a cheerleader for anyone who wants to learn how to feed themselves well. Chef Eliza's culinary adventures began in New York City, where she studied at the Institute of Culinary Education, worked tirelessly at the Rachael Ray Show, Saveur Magazine, and multiple high end catering companies and restaurants. After winning a cooking competition for the James Beard Foundation, she was sent to Chicago to serve as their first Woman in Culinary Leadership. She worked for an Indian restaurant, mastering spices, then for a Creole restaurant, teaching at-risk and homeless to become line cooks. Longing to educate, she next launched her own catering company and aquaponic farming company, while working for a children's cooking school. She soon moved to San Francisco to work as the Executive Chef of a fine dining Italian restaurant in Union Square. Moved to continue her mission to educate, she now works as a San Diego cooking instructor and speaker for both children and adults.

Her mission is to get folks of all ages comfy in the kitchen. She truly believe it is the responsibility of every chef to pass on our culinary knowledge to the next generation who is not being granted food education. To live a long, healthy, and happy life, you need the love language of food. And it all starts in our kitchens.
